Should You Consider An Affiliate Marketing Program?

Author: Khieng Chho

With a vast number of goods and services being advertised and proliferating on the Internet, web site operators and marketers are constantly in search of people and companies that will help them sell their products. And because everything is interconnected on the worldwide web, linking up with other sites is a great and quick way to get the word on your services around.

This is called affiliate marketing.

An affiliate marketing program is a deal that allows two or more parties to share revenue. What happens is you, as an affiliate, will get to generate funds from product owners or marketers who use your site to advertise their goods and services. Through an affiliate marketing scheme, affiliates can refer people who visit their site to someone else's and paid a commission, or referral fee, when web users click on the the link to the advertised site.

When you really think about it, it's a win-win deal. Not only will you gain more traffic to your site, you will also earn some bucks while you're at it. And you dont even need to break a single sweat.

There are generally two types of affiliate marketing programs: single-tier and two-tier. Singe-tier affiliate marketing programs pay you a fee for any sale referred and that's just about all there is to it. Meanwhile, with a two-tier scheme, you are also paid an additional commission based on an agreed percentage from the sales generated from the people you recruited and made a transaction.

Commission in affiliate marketing programs usually go between 5% and 15% of the price of the service or product purchased. On some sites, this percentage could as high as 10%!

There are various forms of affiliate marketing tools. They may come in the form of banners, reviews, text links, direct emails and others. Affiliates are paid when they allow advertisers to place ads on their sites, or for every click on the said ad, or both. It all really depends on your arrangement with your affiliate. Everything in this business is negotiable anyway.

So do you think you need to join an affiliate marketing family? Give it a try. Most of those who join affiliate programs are startup Internet businesses that are looking to expand their client base, e-business operators with an intention to diversify their target markets and income and even e-biz owners that are already established. There really is no clear-cut candidate for affiliate marketing programs. If you feel it will help you and your business, then, by all means, go for it!

How does an affiliate marketing program benefit you?

Simple. You get paid for something you didn't really have to work too hard for. Sure, the referral fees are low, but when you consider the volume of Internet users perusing the Web every minute, getting high returns will not be too difficult in the long run.

Also, it allows you to give your own home business a good start by linking up with other like-minded e-entrepreneurs.

In order, to protect yourself from getting duped, though, as, let's face it, not all affiliate marketing programs are legitimate, read the contract thoroughly first. Once you feel comfortable with the arrangements, get started. You really have nothing much to lose.
